Preparing Your Mobility Equipment for Winter: Maintenance Tips
As the temperatures drop, it’s important to make sure your mobility equipment is ready for winter. Cold weather, snow, and ice can create challenges for scooters, ramps, and even lift chairs. A little preparation now can save you from costly repairs or safety risks later.
1. Take Care of Your Scooter Battery
Keep batteries fully charged—cold weather drains them faster.
Store your scooter in a warm, dry place whenever possible.
If you won’t be using it daily, charge the battery at least once a week to prevent it from losing capacity.
2. Protect Your Lift Chair from Moisture
Place your chair away from windows or doors where snow and damp air can sneak in.
Consider a waterproof slipcover to guard against spills or humidity.
If your chair has a heating feature, check it before winter sets in so you’re not left chilly later.
3. Keep Ramps and Pathways Clear
Use pet-safe, non-slip ice melt to keep ramps from icing over.
Sweep off snow right away to prevent build-up and reduce slip hazards.
Add textured grip tape or a non-slip mat for extra traction.
Winter brings enough challenges—your mobility equipment shouldn’t be one of them. With proper care, you’ll stay safe, warm, and independent all season long.
